Big adventure around Whinny Hill Wood within the Balloch area and not far from Loch Lomond

This wood contains a mixture of established woodland and new broadleaf planting to create a much larger woodland of around 100 hectares. Great views of Loch Lomond from a couple of vantage points.

Start and Finish Points

By foot this wood can be accessed via Balloch Country Park. From Balloch train station turn right onto Balloch Road and continue over the River Leven and past the shops till you see the entrance to Balloch Country Park on your left. Turn into the park and follow the main path to the castle till you reach a fork on the path where the castle is on your left, take the right fork till you reach a crossroad and turn right. Follow this road till you reach the park exit, turn left past CHAS Robin House and continue till you see the sign to the woods on your right where the 3km loop walk begins.

By Vehicle from A82 Stoneymollan Roundabout take the second exit, A811 Balloch. At the next roundabout take the second exit, continue on A811 over the River Leven. At the next roundabout take the second exit, continue on A811 past The National Park building. Turn left into Drymen Road then right into Mollandbowie Road and follow till the end, at the T junction turn left to the entrance to Balloch Country Park and follow the road to the parking area. Once parked you will need to walk back to the entrance where you can see CHAS Robin House and follow the by foot directions.
