Dalmuir Drop Lock - Canal Bridge
The natural vegetation beside the canal is ideal nesting for the many species of water birds that inhabit the canal. In summer, 50 yards in, you will notice a mound of about 1 m circumference on the left-hand side. For the past few years in spring and summer, a pair of swans come here to breed and as the weeks go by the cygnets hatch and you will see them grow.
Coarse fish such as perch, roach and pike populate the canal and it is a popular site for fishing.
There are numerous amounts of wildlife in this area such as deer, moles, hedgehog, rats, mice and foxes. Look out for birds such as grey herons, various species of duck, moorhens, coots and various seabirds.
