A 13Ha woodland located near Craigunnock, with a 9th Century BC fort.
Good example of an upland woodland Much of the woodland is covered in old trees. Oak in the closed canopy, patches of Birch located in other areas. Locally abundant sycamore.
Moderately rich ground flora. These are UK BAP priority habitats.
Good structure for a breeding ground for various birds and inverterbrates.
Ardconnel Hill Fort (Sheephill Fort) a 9th century BC hill Fort situated on top of a steep-sided Volcanic spur, on the lower slopes of the Kilpatrick Hills.

Start and Finish Points
By foot these woods can be accessed from turning into Milton Brae from Dumbarton Road and then turning right into Milton Hill. Walk along Milton Hill and veer right to pick up path taking you to base of Auchentorlie Wood. By vehicle from Dumbarton Road (A82) turn into Milton Brae where you will be able to park on the left hand side of the road. Once parked walk accross Milton Brae into Milton Hill where you will follow the by foot directions.
